Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Athanasios G. Marneris, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

Dr. Marneris is an accomplished board-certified ophthalmologist with extensive knowledge of uveitis and cataract surgery. He is currently affiliated with Multack Eye Care and Associates, serving patients in Olympia Fields, Bourbonnais, and Frankfort, Illinois.

Multack Eye Care and Associates is a full service, family orientated eye care practice, specializing in state of the art cataract surgery with premium lens implantation, Laser Vision Correction, LASIK, minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, oculoplastics and retinal diseases, while being committed to only using the most advanced technology. They pride themselves on treating patients like family and continue to strive to be better everyday.

Originally from Tinley Park, Illinois, Dr. Marneris completed his undergraduate work at Loyola University, and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then went on to complete a prestigious residency in ophthalmology at Michigan State University and a fellowship in corneal disease and uveitis at the University of California, San Francisco. Throughout all of his extensive training, he has always been at the top of his class, ranking in the top 1%, including scoring in the top 1% on the difficult OKAP (Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program) examination. 

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in ophthalmology by the American Osteopathic Boards of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (AOBOO), which is a joint organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the eye (ophthalmologists) and to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of the ears, nose, and throat (otolaryngologists).

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. Ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and may perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

A recipient of the esteemed Patrick Murray Award, Dr. Marneris has numerous publications on laser refractive surgery and glaucoma along with participating in clinical trials for glaucoma and cataract surgery.

When he is not busy seeing patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing music and watching documentaries.
