Dr. Moreno is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon who is currently affiliated with Baptist Health South Florida in Miami, Florida. Dr. Moreno is also the Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery at the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute in Kendall, Florida. Dr. Moreno is one of the pioneers in the area of beating-heart surgery, in which the heart is allowed to continue to pump blood to the body while intricate operating techniques are used by the surgeon. He did the first beating-heart operation in South Florida in 1994 and the first minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve surgeries the following year.
Dr. Moreno is a past Chief of Surgery at Baptist Hospital. For the past 10 years, he has served on the hospital’s Executive Committee. Dr. Moreno is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is also board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). The primary purpose of the ABTS is to protect the public by establishing and maintaining high standards in thoracic surgery.
Dr. Moreno has published results of cardiovascular surgery studies in numerous medical journals and has trained other physicians extensively, particularly in Central and South America and the Caribbean. He received his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in 1979. His postgraduate training includes residencies at the University of Illinois and Metropolitan Group Hospitals, as well as fellowships at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
