Alaskan Optometrist and Community Leader Seeks Re-Election to Anchorage Assembly

Anchorage, Alaska  – Dr. Daniel Volland, a licensed and board-certified optometric physician, proudly announces his re-election campaign for the Anchorage Assembly, representing District 1, North Anchorage. As the founder of Ursa Optical, a popular eye care practice in downtown Anchorage, Dr. Volland has been dedicated to providing exceptional optical services since 2019. Inspired by the Alaskan night sky and the constellation Ursa Major, Dr. Volland believes in the power of teamwork in eye care and community service, stating, “Just like it takes many stars to make up a constellation, good eye care is a team effort.”

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University and a Doctor of Optometry Degree from Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Volland has extensive experience in delivering rural eye care across Alaska. He has traveled to over 30 Alaskan communities, providing essential eye care services in schools, laundromats, bingo halls, and more, demonstrating his commitment to accessibility in healthcare.

As a member of the Anchorage Assembly, Dr. Volland has been actively addressing pressing issues such as homelessness, housing shortages, public safety, and infrastructure challenges. He emphasizes the importance of collaborative decision-making to tackle these issues effectively. “Climbing that hill together requires courageous decision-making and cooperation,” he asserts.

In addition to his work as an optometrist and assembly member, Dr. Volland is a dedicated community leader. He currently serves as Vice President of the South Addition Community Council and has been involved in various committees, including the “Moving Forward” Committee and the Plan Comment Review Committee. His efforts were recognized when he was awarded the 2021 “Anchorage Young Professional of the Year” by the Anchorage Chamber’s Young Professional Group.

Dr. Volland also plays a vital role in the Anchorage East Rotary Club, where he coordinates the Mobile Food Pantry in partnership with the Alaska Food Bank at the Fairview Community Recreation Center. He is an active member of the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, a board member of Alaskans for Better Elections, and serves on the advisory board of the Arctic Encounter Symposium. He also contributes to global awareness and policy discussions as a board member of the Alaska World Affairs Council.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Volland enjoys exploring the natural beauty of Alaska through activities such as pack rafting, backcountry ice-skating, and walking his dog, Juniper, along the Coastal Trail.

As he embarks on his re-election campaign, Dr. Volland remains dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all Anchorage residents, promoting both health and community engagement.
