Upon embarking on his medical journey, Dr. Tanner graduated with his medical degree from Universidad Central del Este San Pedro del Macoris in the Domenican Republic in 1979. He then went on to perform his internship in psychiatry at Manhattan Psychiatric Center in 1981, followed by his residency in internal medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center in 1986. 

Specializing in the medical treatment of adults, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Professionally, Dr. Tanner serves as the Medical Director of Clinton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and as the Chief Advisor of Medicine at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains an active member of the American Medical Association, Prince George’s County Medical Society, the American Society of Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Directors Association, and the Maryland State Medical Society.
