Get to know Dentist Dr. Nima Aflatooni, who serves patients in Gold River, California.
Dr. Nima, a highly skilled and caring dentist, is the Owner of Gold River Smiles in California.
Utilizing the latest evidence-based methods, procedures, and technologies, he provides a high level of personalized patient care in a general dental setting. His focus is on building and maintaining lasting relationships with patients, achieving optimal health in a trusting, safe, and comfortable environment.
Raised on the Big Island of Hawaii to a dental family, Dr. Nima’s father, Dr. Bijan Aflatooni, practiced in Hawaii for over 16 years and was one of the few dentists attending to the needs of the local population. The impact his dad had on the local community created a lasting impression on Dr. Nima, and guided his future decision to pursue a career in dentistry.
Academically, Dr. Nima obtained his degree in Genetics and French from the University of California, Davis. While at Davis, he participated in the Honors Program and was involved in research at the UC Davis Cancer Center in which he investigated novel therapies for new cancer drugs. He was also involved with research in molecular biology and at the UCD Med Center’s Cardiology Department, where he investigated the effectiveness of certain cardiac procedures.
Upon graduation, Dr. Nima worked in the biotech field at a start-up company that focused on cutting edge devices that can detect biological pathogens such as anthrax and smallpox. Much of the work was top secret and funded by government and military agencies. Dr. Nima was named on two patents for his work, and he became the lead investigator on one significant project. Although he felt his work was challenging and rewarding, he wanted something that connected him more to the community.
Thinking back to his father’s positive impact on the local community in Hawaii, Dr. Nima started to consider dentistry as an option. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the prestigious University of the Pacific Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentistry. While in dental school, he acted as Class President, coordinated community service projects for the homeless population of SF, and served on the American Student Dental Association (ASDA Board of Trustees representing all California Dental Schools). Upon graduation, he received the ASDA award for leadership, the Herbert K. Yee scholarship for Academic Excellence and Leadership, as well as awards for community service.
A firm believer in continuing education to further his knowledge, Dr. Nima is personally involved in several leadership positions within the American Dental Association (ADA), the California Dental Association (CDA), and the Sacramento District Dental Society (SDDS). He serves on the ADA Council for Dental Practice, the CDA Government Affairs Committee, and on the Executive Committee of the SDDS. He has also chaired committees and task forces that will change the way new dentists are represented within the CDA.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
A firm believer in advocating for his patients and profession at a personal level, and at a legislative and national level, Dr. Nima has authored multiple articles regarding the future of the dental profession in various publications.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny, daughter, Cyra, and little doggie, Odie. They are big foodies and enjoy traveling and exploring the outdoors. Dr. Nima also enjoys rock climbing and is a big fan of auto racing. He is fluent in multiple languages, including English, Farsi, and French.
