  • What should you avoid if you have a brain aneurysm?

Avoid high blood pressure and head trauma, both of which increase the danger of your aneurysm rupturing. A ruptured aneurysm can be fatal, or change your ability to think and be yourself due to damage to your brain from loss of blood. Some aneurysms are at higher risk of rupturing than others, depending on the shape, size and location. Your age and activity level are also factors to consider, when deciding to operate or not to prevent an aneurysm rupture. The expert you should consult is a neurosurgeon specializing in this area. There are procedures to seal-off the aneurysm from the artery (stenting the artery, filling, or clipping the aneurysm), that will eliminate the danger of your aneurysm rupturing. Placing a stent in the artery separates the aneurysm from the blood circulation. Filling the aneurysm with a coil, so that blood cannot enter it, also eliminates the risk of rupture. These procedures do not require opening your skull, while clipping does. A neurosurgeon will look at factors that determine risk of rupture, and help you decide what is your best course of action. • Why am I waking up with hip pain?

Yesterday, my husband woke up with hip pain. It was anterior, and he noticed it most when he was walking. I pointed out that he had been sitting at the computer for most of 2 days. It seemed to be muscle tightness. I showed him how to stretch it out. No more mention of it today. Anytime a body part is in one position (especially not the one it was made for, which in the case of joints, is movement), it can cause a problem with muscle spasm. The muscle may have been working to help maintain the position. Muscles always do better when stretched. He is often surprised at how good stretching feels, and/or the body part feels after stretching. Another common cause of hip pain is trochanteric bursitis. This is the one where it hurts to lay on your side. The bursa, or fluid-filled cushion that cushions the lateral hip-bone, can get inflamed. This responds very well to steroid injections, which are easy and not painful, if icing, stretches, ibuprofen or other NSAIDS (naproxen, etc.) and not laying on that side don't make it go away. • Is it normal to gain weight while on an insulin pump?

Hi! I mostly treat adults with diabetes, but the basics would be the same. Insulin helps the energy from carbohydrates be used by the body by getting it into the cells instead of letting it sit in the bloodstream. In the bloodstream, extra glucose damages blood vessels, leading to the problems with neuropathy (nerves not getting good circulation get sick), and cardiovascular disease. Newer insulins and other medications and better understanding and monitoring have helped drastically reduce some horrible problems we used to see a lot more: blindness, amputations, heart attacks. So, getting the glucose out of the blood stream into the cells is a really good thing! READ MORE
