He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at Medicare Hospital in 2002, followed by his residency and observership in internal medicine at Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust in the United Kingdom in 2008. A year later, he completed his fellowship in nephrology at City Hospital in Birmingham. 

Upon relocating to the United States, Dr.  Abubacker served his internship and residency in internal medicine at York Hospital in 2012. This was followed by a fellowship in nephrology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in 2014.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine and nephrology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

In affiliation with his professional industry, Dr. Abubacker is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology, the Renal Association (United Kingdom), the Renal Physicians Association, and the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP(UK) – Certified).
