Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Milind Sumant Awale, who serves patients in Wheeling, West Virginia.

A hospitalist, Dr. Awale serves as an Associate Program Director of Hospital Medicine at WVU Medicine – Wheeling Hospital in West Virginia. He specializes in comprehensive health care for people of all ages. 

As a physician advisor, he works closely with the CEO, CMO, COO, CFO, CNO, VP of Quality & Quality Affairs, medical directors, and chief transformation officers.

Back in 2009, Dr. Awale graduated with his medical degree from the Maryland Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He then went on to perform his residencies in surgery and family medicine with the Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium in 2010 and 2014, respectively. 

Following his training, he attained board certification in family medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Experienced in hiring and facilitating programs for new hospitalists and APPs, Dr. Awale’s experience has enabled him to be a strong healthcare services professional. He works closely with hospital operations, physician leaders, medical executives, morbidity and mortality, quality, and infection control committees. Capital division directors and monthly operational reports are also some of the areas in which he plays an active role. 

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of family medicine or internal medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. Hospitalists manage day-to-day care and provide prompt and complete attention to all patient care needs including diagnosis, treatment, and the performance of medical procedures (within their scope of practice).

On a more personal note, Dr. Awale is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Kannada.
