Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Azam Baig, who serves patients throughout the State of Maryland.

Being a trusted pediatrician, Dr. Baig provides expert medical care from infancy through age 21. He is the owner & operator of South River Pediatrics where he is involved in caring for complex and serious patients.

He moved with his family to Annapolis in 1981 and started his pediatric practice in Edgewater. After many successful years, the practice has grown to incorporate two more offices in Maryland, including Stevensville and Dunkirk, and a full staff of pediatricians and certified registered nurse practitioners. 

In his professional experience, Dr. Baig serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (since 1986). He is also on active staff within the Department of Pediatrics at Anne Arundel Medical Center (since 1981), and can be found on the faculty within the Department of Nursing at Johns Hopkins (since 2000), on the teaching faculty at Anne Arundel Community College (Physician Assistant Program), and on the teaching faculty at Walden University (Nurse Practitioner Program). 

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College in Pakistan in 1975. After graduation, he relocated to the United States. Once there, he performed his internship in pediatrics and internal medicine at MedStar Harbor Hospital in 1977, followed by his residency in pediatrics at the University of Maryland in 1980, where he served as Chief Resident. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP), Dr. Baig is board-certified in pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics, whose mission is to advance child health by certifying pediatricians who meet standards of excellence and are committed to continuous learning and improvement.

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends people be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all their developmental stages, as they grow and mature. 

In honor of his clinical expertise, Dr. Baig is the recipient of Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2014, 2015), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014), and On-Time Doctor Award (2014, 2015).
