Get to know Hepatologist Dr. Govarthanan Rajendiran, who serves patients in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Dr. Rajendiran is a competent hepatologist who evaluates and provides treatment to patients pre/post-liver transplant and those with liver disease. Dedicated to providing exceptional and individualized care, he is in practice with the Sanford Center for Digestive Health in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Sanford Center for Digestive Health is the largest and most experienced team in the region, offering gastroenterology care, as well as colorectal and cancer screenings. The team of professionals work in partnership with surgery, hematology, and oncology to offer specialized care in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the pancreas, gallbladder, esophagus, liver, stomach, small intestine, and colon.

A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, Dr. Rajendiran serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. 

On the subject of his educational background, he earned his medical degree from the Madras Medical College in India in 2005. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency at the University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center in 2010 and 2012, respectively. He also completed his fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2018. 

Following his training, the doctor became board-certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Hepatology is the branch of medicine that incorporates the study of liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas as well as the management of their disorders. A hepatologist is a specialist who manages disorders in these areas.
