The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, Faculty of Medicine in Mexico in 1974. He then relocated to the United States, performing his internship at Charles R Drew Medical Center in 1979.

Furthering his training, Dr. Chambi performed two residencies in surgery and neurological surgery at the University of California (Irvine) in 1981 and 1983, respectively. 

Dedicated to the profession of medicine, he is board-certified in neurosurgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

An active member of the professional neurosurgical community, Dr. Chambi has served on many committees, as president and vice president, within those professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.

An expert in his field, Dr. Chambi has been the recipient of many awards and honors throughout his extensive career.
