  • I'm losing my hearing?

If you think you are losing your hearing, I strongly recommend you see an ENT for a hearing test and possible ear cleaning. It might just be some wax blocking the ear, which is annoying, but usually harmless. However, it could be something more serious, and if you don’t treat it soon, sometimes you miss your chance to save your hearing. READ MORE

  • Thyroid?

For a discussion on what to do with a thyroid nodule, you need to see an ENT doc. READ MORE

  • Is my eardrum ruptured?

It sounds like you need to have your ear cleaned out. If there is so much wax you cannot see the ear drum, then it is unlikely that the infection will go away. You need to see an ENT and have your ear checked and probably cleaned. READ MORE

  • How often should a 30 year old get a hearing test?

It’s normally not needed for a 30-year-old to get consistent hearing tests unless there is some kind of issue. If you notice hearing loss or ringing in the ears, I would get a hearing test. Maybe if there is a family history of hearing loss at an early age also consider a test. Otherwise, it is probably not needed until age 50-60. READ MORE

  • Ear infection question?

You probably need to actually go see an ENT doctor to clean your ears out. If there is wax in there that is stuck, you may just make it worse by trying to flush it out or using q-tips. READ MORE

  • Nasal discharge during mastication?

Ask your ENT doctor about a condition called Vasomotor Rhinitis. There are some nasal sprays that can help if that’s what it is. READ MORE

  • Why does my ear hurt after using a cotton swab?

You might have a narrow ear canal, or possibly a bump in the ear canal that you are bumping into. Generally, we don’t recommend using cotton swabs deeply in the ear. READ MORE

  • Why do I feel like something is moving in my ear?

Well, it could be dry skin leading to an itching feeling. Some people describe it as a crawling sensation in their ear. See your local ENT to confirm it’s nothing serious and to possibly get a prescription for some ear drops that will help. READ MORE

  • How can I get rid of tonsillitis fast?

Taking antibiotics is probably the fastest way to get over a tonsillitis. READ MORE

  • How long does tinnitus last after a cold?

That’s not really a question that can be answered in this forum. I encourage you to see an ENT for an ear exam and a hearing test in order to better understand the tinnitus. READ MORE

  • Embarrassment is keeping me from seeing a doctor?

If you have something like a wart in your nose, you need to see an ENT in person to have it looked at and possibly removed. When you go to your local ENT, just follow all the masking and social distancing protocol and you should be fine regarding COVID 19. READ MORE

  • Antibiotics for laryngitis?

Most cases of laryngitis are viral, not bacterial. That means that antibiotics are not effective against most cases of laryngitis. So, probably using home remedies as you mentioned would be fine. But if it isn’t getting better within a week, I would see an ENT for an endoscopy and look at the vocal cords to see what is happening. READ MORE

  • Odd throat pain?

Hello, Your throat pain does not sound odd at all. It sounds like an infection of some kind, possibly strep throat. I recommend that you see either a primary doctor, an ENT specialist, or even an urgent care. Any of those should be able to help. READ MORE

  • Will a sinus infection go away on its own?

Sinus infections can go away without taking antibiotics, but it will take a little longer than it would if you use antibiotics, like a couple weeks longer in most cases. Using things like a decongestant and saline nasal irrigation will help the sinusitis to go away. READ MORE

  • What are the treatment options for tonsil stones?

Typical treatment options for tonsil stones involve some form of direct cleaning using such things as a soft toothbrush, water pick, or a long q tip. In extreme cases, a tonsillectomy, removal of the tonsils is done, but that is not typical. READ MORE

  • Are tonsil stones surgically removed?

Tonsil stones do not need to be removed surgically. Usually, gently cleaning the area with a water pick or a q tip can get the stone out of it is uncomfortable. Go see your local pediatric ENT for help if needed. READ MORE

  • Swollen neck?

Well, if your symptoms are as bad as they sound you should see an ENT doctor as soon as you can get an appointment. There is very little that can be done over the internet. Hopefully it is nothing serious, but you should see an ENT and make sure. READ MORE

  • Why is my voice so weak?

Hello, The only true way to answer that is to see an ENT for a laryngoscopy. That’s a short endoscopy usually done through the nose. That will give you an idea what is happening with your voice. READ MORE

  • Swollen lymph nodes?

If your lymph nodes are truly swollen all the time you should definitely see an ENT for further work-up of what could be causing this. However, they may not actually be swollen, they may just feel different at different times of day, or you may have muscle tension in the neck that gives you the impression that your lymph nodes are swollen. Only a visit with your doctor to order an ultrasound or CT scan of the neck will determine if the lymph nodes are enlarged or not. READ MORE

  • Why do my ears pop when I swallow?

Ear popping is not necessarily a bad thing, but if it is frequent, it can be a sign of congestion in the sinuses and nose. As long as it is not painful and your ears do not feel plugged, most likely it will go away after a few days. If it is persistent, go get an ear exam and hearing test from an ENT specialist.
