If contact lenses are fit correctly and monitored if may be safe to wear every day. You should not sleep in contact lenses. Complete yearly eye examinations are critical to make sure your corneas remain healthy as well as the rest of your eye. READ MORE
Retinal detachment and flying?
First, you need to return or at least call the Ophthalmologist you saw who diagnosed you with a retinal detachment. Retinal detachments are almost always repaired at the first available time, a Vitreous detachment is very different and is usually just monitored. Can you wear your contacts overnight?
It is our strong advice that you should not sleep in your contact lenses. Although contacts may be advertised for 2 weeks or 30 days, we see very serious medical issues resulting from patients who overwear or sleep in their contacts. READ MORE
Pressure test?
Yes, It is true you can get a false reading, but the test should be repeated to assure that an accurate reading is obtained. There are also other tests that should be done in addition if someone has an eye pressure reading which is out of the normal range. READ MORE

I have eye pain?
There may be many reasons for eye pain or discomfort. It may be as simple as your eyes are dry and in need of using artificial tears 4-6x’s a day. When we work up close or are looking at something for long periods of time, we do not blink as often. In addition, women after the age of 35-40 may not produce the good quality of tears as when we were younger. Our tears contain a water, mucus, and oil layer. As we have birthdays, our lubricating system does not work the same as when we were younger. Unfortunately, there are other conditions and diseases that may cause pain or discomfort. I strongly urge you to see an Ophthalmologist for a good complete evaluation. Taking care of your eyes is a vital part of good health. READ MORE
How do you know if you need your eyes tested?
Comprehensive eye exams with an Ophthalmologist should be done if you have any eye problems, change in your vision, pain or irritation of the eyes or eyelids. In addition if you have any systemic medical problems whether controlled or not it is important to see an Ophthalmologist yearly. When there are no eye or medical issues it is recommended a complete eye exam be done with an Ophthalmologist at age 5, then 10, once as a teen, after the age of 20 an exam should be preformed once every 2-4 years as long as there are no issues or concerns. What is the fastest way to cure cataracts?
Cataracts cannot be cured. A cataract must be removed surgically. The cataract is the natural lens of your eye, in time it may become cloudy , hazy or even discolored. The time to have cataract surgery is when the cataract interferers with your vision. Cataract surgery is almost never a medically necessary procedure, it is preformed when a patient wants to improve their vision due to the progression of their cataract and decrease of their vision. Yes, after LASIK it is extremely important to use the prescribed drops as well as artificial tears. Drops are part of the surgical healing process. READ MORE
How do you get rid of a foreign body feeling in your eye?
To help relieve a foreign body sensation, you should start with artificial tears 4-6 times a day. If this does not improve the discomfort within 5-7 days you need to be seen by an Ophthalmologist for further evaluation. What should your eye pressure be?
There is not an absolute perfect number for eye pressure. High eye pressure may be a sign of glaucoma but some patients have a normal high eye pressure and do not have glaucoma. Patients with high eye pressure which may vary with each physician (usually 21 or over) may be considered glaucoma suspects and monitored more frequently. With today’s technology there are other test which are preformed to determine if a patient has glaucoma, or may be at risk of developing glaucoma. It is important to understand examination by an Ophthalmologist is the best defense at helping to diagnose early eye diseases as well as other systemic diseases which may affect the eye health. Patients can also have a very low eye pressure, and have glaucoma, this is called low tension glaucoma. Does ADHD medication lead to astigmatism as a side effect?
An astigmatism is the curve of the cornea, (the clear front surface of the eye). The shape, curve, and length of the eye develops at birth and continues to change as a child grows up until the age of between 18-21 years of age. Medications are not responsible for the curve of the cornea (the astigmatism). Most astigmatisms can be corrected with glasses if the vision is impaired. What exactly is glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a silent disease which can cause permanent blindness, if not detected. It damages the nerve of your eye usually slowly. Once damage is done to the nerve, it causes loss of the peripheral vision as well as will increase the normal blind spot we all have. The good news is, glaucoma most often can be diagnosed early through comprehensive eye exams with an ophthalmologist and is most often treated and controlled with no vision loss. Glaucoma can be heredity, from trauma or just through normal aging. There is nothing that can be done to prevent getting this disease, but as I said, can most often be detected and controlled with yearly eye examinations.
