His interest in urology was ignited during oncology research at Vanderbilt University's Department of Urologic Surgery. Following his urology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2016, Dr. Afshar further specialized his expertise through a fellowship in advanced endourology and robotic surgery at USC in 2017.
With over seven years of practice in the San Fernando Valley, Dr. Afshar maintains active clinical privileges at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Providence Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and Providence St. John's in Santa Monica. As an attending urologist at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, he is dedicated to teaching and mentoring the next generation of urologists.
Dr. Afshar has trained under world-renowned surgeons, providing him with exceptional proficiency in robotic-assisted surgeries for both cancer treatment and reconstructive procedures. His expertise extends to complex kidney stone management, including minimally invasive endourological techniques. Additionally, Dr. Afshar is at the forefront of treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and Prostate cancer, offering innovative solutions such as Aquablation, Optilume, iTind, Rezum, Focal One HIFU, Tulsa Pro, and Nanoknife.

Dr. Ali Afshar, a board certified urologist, has been providing exceptional urological care in the San Fernando Valley since 2017. As a vital member of the San Fernando Valley Urological Associates Medical Group, he operates out of the group’s offices in Tarzana and West Hills, California. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Afshar serves as an attending urologist at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of urologists through the current urology residency program.
Dr. Afshar earned his Medical Degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 2011. He completed an internship in general surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center from 2011 to 2012, followed by a residency in urology at the same institution from 2012 to 2016. To further enhance his expertise, Dr. Afshar pursued a fellowship in advanced robotics, laparoscopy, urologic oncology, and endourology at the University of Southern California from 2016 to 2017.
His passion for urology was ignited while conducting oncology research at the Vanderbilt University Department of Urologic Surgery. Dr. Afshar has trained under some of the world’s leading surgeons, which has equipped him with specialized skills in laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgical techniques. His expertise encompasses a range of complex procedures, including radical prostatectomy, radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, cystectomy, pyeloplasty, and advanced management of complex renal stones through retrograde and percutaneous nephrolithotomy techniques.
Dr. Afshar holds certification from the American Board of Urology and is recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Urological Association, the Western Section of the American Urological Association, and the Los Angeles Urological Society.
