Brook Lane, the largest non-profit mental health system in western Maryland and an affiliate of Meritus Health, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mohammed Ashfaq Azam, MD, to its adult psychiatry team at the main campus in Hagerstown. Dr. Azam joined Brook Lane in 2024, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a commitment to providing high-quality mental health care to the community.
Brook Lane’s main campus is home to the second-largest psychiatric hospital in Maryland, dedicated to serving children, adolescents, and adults facing mental health challenges. The facility offers a comprehensive range of services, including a residential program for children and adolescents, partial hospitalization services, and Title 1 special education schools in Washington County and Frederick County. Additionally, Brook Lane operates three outpatient locations in Hagerstown, Frederick, and Cumberland, providing psychiatry services and therapy for individuals of all ages. The InSTEP program at Brook Lane further extends these services by offering outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment options for individuals grappling with substance use disorders.
Dr. Azam earned his Medical Degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada in 2012, followed by a residency in psychiatry at Howard University, which he completed in 2016. He also holds a Master of Arts Degree in Medical Science from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
