Get to know Pain Medicine Specialist Dr. Leslie Stephen Foster, who serves the population of Cumberland, Maryland.

Dr. Foster is a physician based out of Cumberland, Maryland and his medical specialization is physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. He has been practicing in his field for over three decades. He currently practices with National Spine & Pain Centers (NSPC). 

For more than 30 years, NSPC affiliated physicians have been pioneers in the relief of chronic and acute pain through minimally invasive procedures. In regards to his education, Dr. Foster graduated with his undergraduate degree from Siena College. He then graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Philadelphia College Of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. He began his training with his residency with the St Elizabeth Hospital, followed by a residency with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Furthering his training he completed a fellowship with the Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the Children’s National Medical Center. 

Dr. Foster is certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR). The mission of the ABPMR is to serve the public by improving the quality of patient care in physical medicine and rehabilitation. This is accomplished through a process of certification and maintenance of certification that fosters excellence and encourages continuous learning.

Pain medicine is concerned with the prevention of pain, and the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients experiencing pain. Pain medicine physicians use a broad-based approach to treat all pain disorders, ranging from pain as a symptom of disease to pain as the primary disease. Dr. Foster serves as a consultant to other physicians but is often the principal treating physician, providing care at various levels; such as treating the patient directly, prescribing medication, prescribing rehabilitative services, performing pain relieving procedures, counseling patients and families, directing a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other healthcare providers, and providing consultative services.

Dr. Foster is bilingual and fluent in both English and French.
