Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Chetan Gujrathi, who serves patients in Phoenix, Arizona.

An excellent otolaryngologist, Dr. Gujrathi is in practice with Arizona Otolaryngology Consultants in Phoenix, Arizona. He helps treat patients who have head and neck cancer. This may include surgical procedures such as laryngectomies, neck dissections, endoscopic sinus surgery, and other ENT and head and neck surgeries.

“I think listening to what a patient has to say – their opinions, frustrations, joy, sadness, surprise, relief – is the most important thing I do. Countless times, I find that I may not be offering anything to the patient that they are not aware of, but they are happier, and more confident simply because I listened to them and was able to talk to them in a way that they understand” expressed the doctor. 

Among his other roles, Dr. Guhrathi is currently serving as the Chief of Oncology & Robotics at the Head & Neck Institute of Banner University Medical Center (Phoenix). He is also a member of both the Skull Base Team at Barrow’s Neurological Institute and the CranioFacial Team at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Locally, he can be found on staff at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Banner Desert Medical Center, Surgery Center of Peoria, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Banner University Medical Center (Phoenix), and Banner Thunderbird Medical Center.

Regarding his educational background, Dr. Gujrathi earned his medical degree and completed his residency in otolaryngology at the University of Toronto in Canada. He then went on to complete a fellowship in skull base surgery and head and neck oncology and free flap/microvascular surgery at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento.

The doctor is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which serves the public by ensuring that diplomates meet the standards of training, knowledge, and professionalism through initial and continuing certification.

An active member of the North American Skull Base Society, Dr. Gujrathi is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

An authority in his field, he has been published in various journals, such as Journal of Otolaryngology. He has also given research presentations for the Canadian Society of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery Annual Meeting and the Combined Otolaryngological Societies Meeting.

Otolaryngology is the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Otolaryngologists, also known as ear, nose, and throat doctors, specialize in disorders of the head and neck, ranging from hearing loss to cancer.

As a testament of his accessible and expert care, Dr. Gujrathi has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2014, 2011, 2009, 2008), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2014, 2011, 2009), and On-Time Doctor Award (2009).

On a more personal note, he lives in Scottsdale with his wife, Stephanie, and their five children. He is an NHL fan and occasional player, volunteers for his daughter’s Girl Scouts, and enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and skating with his children. He is fluent in English and French.
