Dr. Hijazi is a double-board certified interventional pain management specialist & anesthesiologist who brings over 20 years of experience to LA Pain Doctor. He serves men and women at four convenient locations in Metairie, LaPlace, Harvey, and New Orleans, Louisiana.

He is an expert in treating arthritic back pain, including spondylosis, degenerative changes, and osteoarthritis, with medication management and procedures such as radiofrequency ablation. He is also an expert in treating a variety of other pain conditions, including headaches, interstitial cystitis, post-laminectomy syndrome, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS).

With a special interest in regional anesthesia in pain management, Dr. Hijazi loves getting to know his patients and helping them live active, mobile, and pain-free lives. He always sets aside plenty of time to understand his patients’ individual needs. Through thorough examinations, he diagnoses the source of their pain and creates custom treatment plans using a variety of treatment methods, including physical therapy, injections, and other noninvasive procedures.

Working alongside Satvik Munshi, MD, the doctor-duo regularly works with individuals to diagnose and treat all types of acute and chronic pain, including hip pain, knee pain, leg pain, arm pain, muscle pain, shoulder pain, and headaches. They also specialize in treating musculoskeletal disorders such as arthritis, back pain, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, neck pain, and sciatica. Active individuals and athletes can also access treatment for sports injuries.

At the beginning of his professional pursuits, Dr. Hijazi attended one of the top medical schools in Italy – University of Brescia, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery – where he earned his medical degree. Following graduation, he moved to the United States and completed a medical residency in anesthesia at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He subsequently participated in an interventional pain management fellowship at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.

Following his fellowship, he returned to the New Orleans area and worked in interventional pain management at River Parishes Hospital, St. Charles Hospital, and St. James Hospital. He believed that he could give patients more attention and quality of care in a private practice setting, and therefore co-founded Louisiana Pain Specialists.

Certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Dr. Hijazi proudly holds membership in the American Society of Anesthesia, the River Parishes Medical Society, and the Louisiana State Medical Society.

As a testament to his success, he is board-certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), whose mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care.

Interventional pain management or interventional pain medicine is a medical subspecialty which treats pain with invasive interventions such as facet joint injections, nerve blocks, neuroaugmentation, vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, nucleoplasty, endoscopic discectomy, and implantable drug delivery system. As an interventional pain management physician, Dr. Hijazi focuses on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, anesthesiologists also measure the patient’s respiration.

On a more personal note, Dr. Hijazi speaks English, Italian, and Arabic fluently. He welcomes any man or woman seeking relief from acute or chronic pain to LA Pain Doctor today.
