  • Can the COVID vaccine cause neurological issues?

It depends on the issue. Any vaccine or injection of medicine can cause local neurological issues if administered incorrectly. If the issue is more global (involves the whole body), not a messenger RNA vaccine. The mechanism of conferring immunity is not likely to cause any lasting side effects. READ MORE

  • Loss of taste and smell?

We are learning new things about coronavirus every day. The smell and taste changes are a reflection of inflammation of the path and area of the brain where cranial nerve #1 nucleus is located. I have had patients report a slow recovery to this symptom and some have a long term distortion. The distortion is a sign the nerves and pathways are recovering. If the damage has only occured in the axon or wiring/path of the nerve, the nerve works on recovery at a rate of 1 mm per 1-2 days. If the damage is in the neuronal or "control center" of the nerve, it will only recover if another nerve is recruited and "trained" for the job. That takes years. Keep your b complex vitamins supplemented to support the regeneration process. Be patient. I wish I had more of an answer for you. I am glad you survived the infection. READ MORE

  • This morning I woke up with a sharp pain in my chest whenever I breathe in too deep?

The most common respiratory symptom in those under the age of 18 yrs is chest pain. You need to see a doctor to get a clear answer to this problem. You may have a mild case of asthma as long as you have a healthy heart but make sure it is not COVID. READ MORE

  • I have a low grade fever after the flu shot?

When you receive any vaccine, it needs to be "processed" by your body. Most vaccines have 1-2 days of inflammation from this (low grade fever, body aches, fatigue, etc) This keeps your immune system busy for a few days. If your body is working at protecting you from a low grade infection when you are vaccinated, the infection wins and you get sick. You probably have an atypical bacterial infection. If it persists, you need to see a doctor. READ MORE

  • Antibody test?

The coronavirus class has been around us for a very long time and we understand that no antibodies to any coronavirus last for more than 9 months. Prior to the pandemic, infections caused by coronavirus were mild. This is the first coronavirus that we know of that has deadly potential. Even if you had COVID19 in the recent past, the antibodies will not reliably protect for more than 90 days after recovery from the natural infection. The natural infection is riskier because of rogue proteins that can develop bringing the potential for clotting, inflammation of the brain and nervous system. This is not likely to happen with vaccination. Antibodies generated from vaccination appear to reach high enough levels that protection from an acute infection appears to last 6 to 9 months. There are risks with every choice in life. You should choose the route you are most comfortable with regarding your care and be comfortable with the consequences of that choice. READ MORE

  • How painful is rectal prolapse surgery?

Pain is perceived differently from person to person, so it is difficult to give you a specific answer. However, in general, the anal area has a lot of nerve endings, so if you are having surgery involving the anus, that will be tender. If the surgery is higher and involving more of the colon itself, your level of pain will depend on the approach. Less invasive procedures involving the Davinci Robot are less painful in general when compared to an open surgery. It is best to ask your doctor for more specifics. READ MORE
