He has been using regenerative modalities like platelet-rich plasma and prolotherapy for years successfully to treat and help heal patients’ injuries, both acute and chronic.
Receiving his undergraduate degree in biochemistry, Dr. Handwerger proceeded to further his graduate studies in Ethnobotany. He lived in Costa Rica, studying and documenting the uses of medicinal plants by native peoples in the treatment of disease. During this time, he organized and developed sustainable rainforest projects and assisted local health departments with rural health programs.
Holding an academic post, he was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine, where he earned his 4-year Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree and went on to teach endocrinology and clinical diagnosis.
Looking beyond conventional medicine, Dr. Handwerger is a member of the American Association of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American College for Advancement in Medicine, and the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians. He is also a faculty member and lecturer at The Institute For Human Individuality at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine.
Previously, he served as the Chief Medical Officer for the prestigious Blood Type Clinic, and as a panel member for the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
