    One cigarette is not a problem, but if you are smoking daily and often, it will damage your lungs. Is it reversible? Yes, if you stop smoking. However, long-term smoking, it will take some time to heal and not 100%. My advice is to stop smoking. READ MORE

Get to know Pediatric Pulmonologist Dr. Evelyn Montalvo Stanton, who serves patients in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As a compassionate, fellowship-trained pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. Stanton specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic lung disease of infants, children, and adolescents. She sees patients at the UNLV Medicine Pediatric Clinic, and serves as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the UNLV School of Medicine.

In her medical practice, she has developed an expertise for treating asthma, pneumonias, aerodigestive disorders, chronic lung disease, and chronic respiratory failure in children with neuromuscular disease and special needs children with tracheostomies and ventilators. She also has expertise in pulmonary lung function and pediatric flexible bronchoscopy. 

Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Stanton graduated with her medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1985.She then completed a research fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. After completing her fellowship, she worked as a Pediatric Pulmonologist at the Goryeb Children’s hospital at Morristown, NJ. She then came back to Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where she  held an appointment there as a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and served in New Jersey as Barnabas Health Medical Group’s Division Director of Pediatric Pulmonology. Devoted to the well-being of children of all ages, she is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric pulmonology by the American Board of Pediatrics, which is an independent and nonprofit organization that was founded in 1933. It is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties.

To advance her professional efforts, she remains a member of the American Thoracic Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics (Fellow), the American College of Chest Physicians (Fellow), the American Medical Association, and the American Association for Physician Leadership.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. Pediatric pulmonologists diagnose, treat, and manage children from birth to 21 years old with breathing and lung diseases.

With an unwavering commitment to her speciality, Dr. Stanton has published research that has appeared in Pediatrics in Review as well as publications of the National Resources Defense Council and the American Lung Association. 

Her community outreach in New Jersey, often the subject of media attention, has largely centered on pulmonary education and asthma, which has also long been a focus of both her academic and clinical research. She established a toll free bilingual helpline for asthma-related issues and support events that was accessible to Latino parents, as well as created a website to assist  parents, schools, and community-based organizations about asthma-related topics.

On a more personal note, Dr. Stanton is fluent in both English and Spanish.
