Why is LASIK performed awake?
The main reason Lasik is done with the patient awake is because the patient is asked to focus on lights and look in different directions to make the procedure successful. Also, the Lasik procedure usually requires about 10+ minutes to complete each eye, general anesthesia is associated with increased risks and costs, and topical numbing drops plus oral anti-anxiety medications are sufficient for this remarkably pain-free Lasik surgery. Which eye drop is best for cataracts?
I am not sure what you mean by "best for cataracts". There aren't any drops that treat, reduce the effects of, or remove cataracts. Surgical removal is how cataracts are treated once they cause significant vision loss that can't be improved significantly with glasses/contact lenses. READ MORE
Is Lasik better than glasses?
I don't know what you mean by better. If you mean clearer vision without having to wear glasses or contact lenses, then the vision after Lasik is better than your vision without glasses. Lasik cannot make you see more than your vision best corrected with glasses or contact lenses, it allows you to see your best vision without needing glasses. There are limits to how much nearsighted, farsighted, and or astigmatism can be corrected with Lasik. READ MORE
What does foggy vision mean?
Foggy vision is not a term the eye physicians usually use, instead most use blurrred vision which means vision that is not clear as one would like. READ MORE
I'm smelling smoke constantly?
Your question should have been sent to an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) specialist, not an Ophthalmologist (Eye) specialist. READ MORE
Seeing random balls of light?
I would recommend that you see an ophthalmologist. Mant possible explanations for your symptoms are available, but until your eyes are examined, they are nothing but possibilities or probabilities. Other important eye conditions that you have or don't have will factor in determining the etiology of your eye symptoms. READ MORE
Can laser eye surgery correct farsightedness?
Lasik eye surgery is moderately effective for the correction of low degrees of hyperopia ( +1.00 D to +3.00 D), but some regression was observed over the course of a 5-year follow-up period. READ MORE
I have a dark spot on the red fleshy part of the eye (conjunctiva i think its called?) is this something to worry about?
You need to make an appt with an ophthalmologist so that this lesion can be examined along with a thorough and complete eye exam, plus noting if there are similar features on the face or other eye. READ MORE
How long does it take for vision to stabilize after cataract surgery?
There is no universal amount of time that everyone's vision is stable after cataract surgery. If the patient does not have significant pre-existing eye conditions, and an uneventful surgery, the vision after cataract surgery is improved and stable within 2-4 weeks. READ MORE
Blurry vision?
You need to see an eye doctor, an ophthalmogist or optometrist. From what you have described, it is probably as simple as needing glasses due to a refractive error - myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism. READ MORE
How long can a cataract be left untreated?
By left untreated, I'm assuming that you mean having cataract surgery (to remove the cataract). Cataract surgery is usually done when the patient has trouble seeing to perform the daily chores of living, i.e., reading, driving, golfing, etc., and the eye doctor cannot improve the vision to a satisfactory level with glasses or other visual aids. At this point, it is time to schedule or discuss scheduling cataract surgery. You, the patient, decide when your vision is limiting your ability to comfortably see and the doctor should verify that the cataract is the reason for your compromised vision. READ MORE
Issues with my right eye?
You need to go back to the doctor that took this picture and explain that you don't understand why you have fluid and blurry vision in your eye. I can't see enough of a vital area in this photo to advise on where the fluid leak is, nor do I know any of your eye history to be able to give you any definitive diagnosis or prognosis or treatment recommendations. READ MORE
Is it normal to have floaters after laser eye surgery?
If you did not see floaters before your laser surgery, you should tell your laser surgeon that you have floaters now. The surgeon can determine if you had floaters prior to laser and can examine your eyes to check on the floaters that you are seeing now. READ MORE
Is it ok to use eye drops with preservatives after Lasik?
This question should be asked of your Lasik surgeon because different surgeons have different post-Lasik medication regimens. READ MORE
My eyes hurt when I look to the left?
If you have recently received a covid vaccine shot, it may be due to myalgias (muscle aches/pain) sometimes associated with the shots. However, if the pain persists, please see an eye care specialist, especially if vision blurring or loss or worsening pain or double vision happens. READ MORE
How long should you rest after cataract surgery?
There is no set period of time that is required to rest after cataract surgery. It depends on the individual and the post-op protocol of your eye surgeon. Some people go shopping and even play golf, while others go home and rest during the few hours after surgery. The important post op instructions are using your eye medications as directed and protecting your eye from injury and keeping your early post-op eye exams. READ MORE
Dizziness and blurring vision?
The dizziness is usually not associated with eye blurring from removing glasses. It is recommended that you see your internist or family physician for evaluation and possible labs or testing, with further referral if needed. Try to make an appt soon. READ MORE
What is the difference between Lasik and Femto Lasik surgery?
Lasik is the earlier refractive surgical procedure before femtoLasik. Lasik uses a blade system to make the Lasik (thin corneal) flap, suction is released and the cutting instrument is removed, the flap is lifted and the laser is then used to reshape the cornea to treat the refractive error (myopia, astigmatism and/or hyperopia), and the flap is then repositioned over the laser treated cornea. FemtoLasik is done without a separate blade system. READ MORE
Can eye pressure be reduced naturally?
There is a normal range for eye pressure and there is a high range that has to be diagnosed as ocular hypertension or glaucoma. There is no natural treatment for glaucoma and the present treatments include glaucoma eye drops, oral medications and other prescription meds, laser glaucoma procedures and glaucoma surgical procedures. It would be wise to see an ophthalmologist for a definitive diagnosis and treatment if necessary. READ MORE
Why is it hard for me to see at night while driving?
I can't give you a definite answer without an eye exam, but you are probably myopic (nearsighted) with or without astigmatism, which causes more noticeable visual decrease or problems in low lighting or dark conditions. Make an appointment with an eye care specialist soon because glasses or contact lenses or refractive surgery would improve your vision. READ MORE
