What do you do when your eyes hurt from light?
Pain in the eyes from light has to be differentiated from photophobia which is significant light sensitivity without pain. Photophobia can be treated with dark lenses and other sun protective head gear - hats, caps. Pain associated with lights should be evaluated and possibly treated by an eye care specialist. This pain can be caused by a traumatic eye injury or in someone with an inflammatory condition / disease. Is it normal to see spots after cataract surgery?
Seeing spots could be due to more than one cause. Floating or moving black to opaque spots, " floaters" can become more visible after cataract surgery because the cloudy cataract has been removed and is no longer blurring or decreasing the amount of light entering the eye and visual axis. The floaters are areas of the vitreous that have separated from the retina and are now visible when in normal to bright lighting. It depends on the type of intra ocular lens ( IOL implant ) that is placed into your eye. There are 3 main types: 1) distance vision correction without astigmatism correction - yes you will need reading glasses after surgery, 2) distance vision with astigmatism correction - yes, you will need reading glasses and 3) multifocal IOL - no reading glasses required approximately 90-95% of the time.
