Dr. Pirrello is an accomplished general and bariatric surgeon with extensive experience, proudly serving the Greater Hartford area. With certification from MBSAQIP and a proven track record, he specializes in treating various conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia, nutrition, morbid obesity, and minimally invasive surgery.

Demonstrating exceptional skill, Dr. Pirrello effectively treats patients with bariatric disorders, enhancing their health and satisfaction. His consistent success in performing bariatric surgeries over two decades has made substantial contributions to advancements in the healthcare industry. 

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Pirrello graduated with his Medical Degree from New York Medical College in 2000. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery and his fellowship in bariatric surgery at the Westchester Medical Center in 2005 and 2006, respectively.

Before establishing his private practice, Dr. Pirrello held the position of Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at William W. Backus Hospital, a 213-bed, not-for-profit, acute care community hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. 

Reflecting his exceptional education, training, and expertise, Dr. Pirrello is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

With a commitment to professional excellence and patient care, Dr. Pirrello is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and a member of the American Medical Association.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

Bariatric surgery is a medical term for surgical procedures used to manage obesity and obesity-related conditions. Long term weight loss with bariatric surgery may be achieved through alteration of gut hormones, physical reduction of stomach size, reduction of nutrient absorption, or a combination of these. Surgeons trained in this specialty are known as bariatric surgeons.
