Transforming Patient Care by Bridging Traditional and Integrative Medicine
Litchfield, Connecticut - Dr. Alicia McKelvey, a distinguished figure in the field of thoracic surgery, is now making waves in the realm of integrative medicine, bringing her extensive surgical expertise and innovative approach to patient care. After decades of dedicated service in traditional medicine, she has recognized the limitations of conventional practices and is committed to redefining how patients achieve their health goals through integrative methodologies.
Beginning her journey in medicine with a clear focus on becoming a general thoracic surgeon, she earned her medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine in 1995 and completed her residency in general surgery at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT, in 2001. Her passion for cardiothoracic surgery led her to specialized training at renowned institutions including George Washington University, The Cleveland Clinic, and The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
In her pursuit of excellence, Dr. McKelvey has trained a new generation of surgeons, sharing her wealth of knowledge and skills. However, her experience in traditional medicine illuminated a significant gap in holistic patient care. This realization inspired her to explore integrative medicine, a field that emphasizes treating the whole person, rather than just addressing symptoms. She is now board certified (ABOIM) in Integrative Medicine, having completed her training at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine in San Diego, California.
As part of her unique practice, genomic testing is used to help get to the root cause of health issues. Genomic testing looks at ‘typos’ in our DNA. These typos can be turned on and off by both our internal and external environments. Genomic testing can helps create personalized health care plans.
