Dr. Muppavarapu is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. He is currently serving patients in the Orthopedics Department at Carney Hospital, which is a 159-bed community teaching hospital in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The hospital provides Dorchester and surrounding communities with convenient, local access to quality primary care, emergency medicine and a range of specialties and subspecialties including; critical care, family medicine, cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, ambulatory care, as well as adolescent, adult and geriatric psychiatry. Carney Hospital is also affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine and Tufts Medical Center.

Dr. Muppavarapu received his medical degree from the University of Illinois in 2009. He then went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at Tufts Medical Center, followed by his fellowship training in hand surgery at the New York University School of Medicine.

Dr. Muppavarapu is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). Founded in 1934, the ABOS exists to serve the best interest of the public and the medical profession by establishing educational standards for orthopaedic residents and by evaluating the initial and continuing qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Dr. Muppavarapu is a Fellow of American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (FAAOS). He is also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society - an honor society in the field of medicine. As with all true honors, the honor of AΩA membership is accompanied by the responsibility to sustain the vision and goals of the society through professionalism, scholarship, leadership, and service.

Orthopedic surgery or orthopedics, also spelled orthopaedics, is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Sports medicine, on the other hand, is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. As a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Muppavarapu is well trained in musculoskeletal medicine, specializing in non-operative and operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.

Dr. Muppavarapu attributes his success to his love of the medical field, continuous education, and the rise of new technological advancements. By teaching new students and overcoming challenges, he always strives to make a difference.
