Ramana Naidu, MD is board certified anesthesiologist and pain physician who is the medical director of pain management at MarinHealth Medical Center and the medical director of Marin Specialty Surgery Center. He is primarily based at MarinHealth Spine Institute, a UCSF Health Affiliate, serving to help patients with pain before and after surgery.
His philosophy is... While medicine has done a wonderful job in the last 150 years in improving the quantity of life, we have not been as successful with improving the quality of life of individuals as we see more chronic non-communicable diseases, such as low back pain, or persistent post-surgical pain. His interest in pain medicine stems from a desire to help people live a better quality of life and function. He is at the forefront of novel minimal evidence-based therapies to help people sustainably.
Dr. Naidu earned a medical degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison where he was born and raised. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, followed by a fellowship in pain management at University of California – San Francisco (UCSF) where he continued to practice for another five years as an assistant professor.
He was a United States Department of State, Fulbright Scholar, in public health in Copenhagen, Denmark, with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe. During this time, he studied hospital-acquired infections and the dissemination of information regarding prevention. Dr. Naidu is engaged in clinical research as he is interested in ensuring that we have safe, economical, and effective therapies for specific pain conditions.
He is a co-founder and past President of Pacific Spine & Pain Society. Dr. Naidu is an active member of the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, North American Neuromodulation Society, and International Neuromodulation Society.
