Can glaucoma progression be stopped?
Yes it can with early aggressive management . The key is to screen patients and catch it early. Every case is different like any disease some people have a mild case and some difficult and more severe requiring more intervention. There are some cases of glaucoma that no matter what you do you may slow progression but it still continues to get worse. These cases are very frustrating. How bad do your eyes have to be to get Lasik?
LASIK or PRK can treat many levels of refractive error. Very high error may be too risky. Low error within reason can almost always be treated. It depends on your overall eye health, a stable refraction, and corneal health and thickness. These are all determined with an evaluation. READ MORE
What is the difference between Lasik and Femto Lasik surgery?
LASIK means you are cutting the cornea to make a flap. Lifting the flap then lasering. The flap is replaced. Femto is another laser making the flap. The other method is an extremely sharp blade called a microkeratome makes the flap. Outcomes are the same for both. Femto will cost more. READ MORE

Can you use eye drops with contacts in?
If you have daily disposable contacts then yes you can use most drops with them as you are throwing them out at the end of the day. If extended wear then you can use preservative free drops. Dr. McKay is a board certified ophthalmologist who is currently serving patients at Norwich Ophthalmology Group in Norwich and Niantic, Connecticut. For all patients, present and future, Norwich Ophthalmology Group is pleased to offer comprehensive eye care for the whole family including, but not limited to, periodic eye & vision exams using state-of-the-art technology, as well as screening and treatment of common eye diseases and disorders, cataract extractions, emergency services, and laser vision correction.
Dr. McKay is affiliated with the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, as well as Constitution Surgery Center East in Waterford, Connecticut. Dr. McKay is board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States. Founded in 1916, the ABO was the first American Board established to certify medical specialists and is one of 24 specialty Boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and the American Medical Association.
Dr. McKay earned his medical degree from Queen’s University Belfast School of Medicine in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, his residency at Brown University in Providence, and his residency in ophthalmology at Interfaith Medical Center in New York City. He also completed a surgical training program in ophthalmology introduced by Britain’s National Health Service.
Dr. McKay is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the New England Ophthalmological Society, the Connecticut Society of Eye Physicians, the Connecticut State Medical Society, the New London County Medical Association, and the American Medical Association.
