Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Sonia Ponce, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Ponce, a highly trained cardiologist, is the Owner and Operator of Community Cardiology Clinic in Chula Vista, California. She and her team strive to ensure patients receive the care they need to reduce their cardiovascular risk and live longer, healthier lives.

The mission of Community Cardiology Clinic is to provide up to date evidence-based cardiovascular care in a culturally sensitive and patient-centric manner. The Clinic aims to empower patients to live healthier through lifestyle interventions, education, and medical management.

Throughout her academic career, Dr. Ponce received her Medical Degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2009. She then continued her medical training, completing a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. She also completed a research fellowship at the University of California San Diego.

Helping patients maintain a heart-healthy life, Dr. Ponce is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among her other positions, Dr. Ponce is an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health at the University of California San Diego School of Health Sciences. She has admission privileges at Scripps Mercy Chula Vista and Scripps Mercy San Diego.

Distinguished with fellowship status, Dr. Ponce is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). 

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

On a more personal note, Dr. Ponce is fluent in English and Spanish.
