Douglas W. Little, MD, a Family Physician in Private Practice

Get to know Family Physician Dr. Douglas W. Little, who serves patients in Tucson, Arizona.

Specializing in comprehensive health care for people of all ages, Dr. Little is a family physician in private practice in Tucson, Arizona.

He has designed a medical practice that puts the importance of the doctor-patient relationship at center stage.  This return to a more traditional style of medical care involves making health decisions based on a working relationship and familiarity between patient and practitioner and is individualized to the patient’s medical goals and objectives.

“Developing a personal physician relationship with my patients and getting to know their history, lifestyle, and health care goals and objectives in detail is the part of medicine I find most rewarding. I particularly enjoy demystifying the medical world for my patients and helping them gain a greater understanding of their medical conditions in terms that make sense to them. I emphasize the importance of a team approach, because from that foundation comes trust, mutual understanding, and the development of a true collegial relationship, and that is when the most effective medical care happens” expressed the doctor.

A graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and the Ohio State College of Medicine, Dr. Little completed his residency in family medicine at the Wake Forest University Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. There, he received the Outstanding Resident Clinical Instructor Award twice and was selected Chief Resident in his final year of training.

After his residency training, Dr. Little began what would become a 20-year active duty military career in the U.S. Armed Forces, serving as a Flight Surgeon in both the Air Force and Army. During his military service, he served in combat tours in both the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of war. He concluded the final decade of his military career rising to the most senior medical positions in the Arizona Army National Guard as the Medical Chief of Staff (State Surgeon) and the Chief Flight Surgeon (State Aviation Medical Officer). In addition, he held national positions as the Western Regional Flight Surgeon to the National Guard Bureau and a Region Surgeon, representing the Western Region States.

With over 25 years of experience, he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Since 2007, Dr. Little has conducted FAA flight physicals as a Certified Aeromedical Examiner for all classes of pilots. He now embarks into his civilian medical practice in Tucson, Arizona where he lives with his wife and four children.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
