An adept anesthesiologist, Dr. Koncelik is the Regional Medical Director of HCA Healthcare Physician Services Group – West Florida Division.
As he approaches the building of an anesthesia team, experience has led him to inspire specific qualities in such teams. Loyalty in building his team dictates that there is respect that is permeated throughout the organization for all members of the team. As a mentor, Dr. Koncelik considers it his responsibility to coach his team and find educational tools to drive them to educational and performance excellence.
At the start of his academic career, Dr. Koncelik earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1978 and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine at Ohio University in 1982. He then went on to perform his residency within the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1989.
Furthering his education, he obtained his Master of Science degree in Health Law from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law in 2018, and his Master of Business Administration degree from Jack Welch Management Institute in 2021.
Successful in his field, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA). The AOBA is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the administration of anesthetic agents and perioperative medicine.
Having spanned a career of 40-plus years, Dr. Koncelik has worked in emergency medicine for three years where he polished his skills in making concise and evidence-based treatment. After his brief career in emergency medicine, he decided to transition to the specialty of anesthesiology. He found his true medical position as he embraced the game of physiologic and pharmacologic chess on the board of health comorbidities.
Throughout the various practices and areas of the country he has practiced, Dr. Koncelik has been tasked to develop solutions for various challenges and confidently address dysfunctions in anesthesia departments.
When entering into any new anesthesia setting, he utilizes his abilities of confidence and knowledge to establish a rapport with the new anesthesia team. When challenged by any administration, surgical or anesthesia members in these new ventures, he utilizes his past experiences as a leader and mentor to establish himself as a focused leader.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
