Colts Neck, New Jersey – Dr. Peter M. Farrugia, a distinguished interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist with over a decade of experience, is making waves in the medical community with his patient-centric approach to cardiac and vascular care.
Serving as the CEO of Advanced Heart and Vascular of Central Jersey, Dr. Farrugia is on a mission to break down corporate barriers and prioritize the physician-patient relationship, placing the well-being of his patients above all else. His hospital affiliations extend to Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch Campus; Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born on Long Island to Maltese immigrant parents, Dr. Farrugia’s journey to becoming a leading figure in cardiovascular medicine has been marked by dedication, passion, and a commitment to excellence. Graduating as an AP scholar with distinction, he went on to excel at King’s College, where he obtained a dual degree in Biology and Molecular Biology. His academic achievements continued at the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, where he honed his skills and knowledge in the field of medicine.
As a fourth-year medical student, Dr. Farrugia married his college sweetheart, after which he began his postgraduate medical education in the Internal Medicine Program at SUNY Stony Brook. He then completed a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in Manhattan, where he specialized in radial artery catheterization and endovascular techniques. Following this, Dr. Farrugia pursued further training in interventional cardiology at Winthrop University Hospital on Long Island, solidifying his expertise in advanced cardiovascular care.
In July 2011, Dr. Farrugia and his family moved to New Jersey to advance his career as an interventional cardiologist and vascular specialist. He spent eight years with Barnabas Health Medical Group, serving as the Director of Outpatient Vascular Medicine and Chief of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Monmouth Medical Center. This experience inspired him to develop an improved care delivery model, leading to the establishment of Advanced Heart and Vascular of Central Jersey.
Board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, Dr. Farrugia’s credentials speak to his expertise and dedication to advancing the field of cardiac and vascular medicine. As a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), he continues to uphold the highest standards of care in his practice.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Farrugia is a devoted husband to his wife, Erin, and a loving father to four children - Samantha, Vincent, Brianna, and Thomas - and an energetic Labradoodle named Private. He and his wife are training in ballroom dancing, having been certified up to Bronze Level 3 in several dances. Outside of the office, Dr. Farrugia coaches little league baseball, basketball, and softball, embodying the values of teamwork, dedication, and community spirit.
