With a broad educational background, Dr. Elftmann earned his undergraduate degree at the University of St. Thomas and his medical degree at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He then completed a surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), he is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Licensed to practice medicine in Minnesota, Dr. Elftmann is affiliated with Ridgeview Medical Center & Two Twelve Surgery Center, LLC.
General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Married with two children, Dr. Elftmann has lived in the south metro area most of his life. He is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys family outings, fishing, golfing, and downhill skiing.
