Dr. Rainville is a board-certified General and Bariatric surgeon who is currently affiliated with Ballem Surgical Associates in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Ballem Surgical Associates are a compassionate team of professionals dedicated to helping patients achieve their goals of a healthy weight and a healthy lifestyle by providing them with information, resources, and the highest quality care.

Dr. Rainville has been a pioneer of Robotic and Bariatric Surgery since he started practice in 2013. To date, he has performed the most Robotic Bariatric surgeries in the entire state of New Jersey and continues to pursue the latest in advanced surgical techniques.

Dr. Rainville is the Medical Director of Robotic Surgery at Hackensack UMC Mountainside Hospital. He is also an instructor and proctor to surgeons across the country for DaVinci Robotic surgery.

Dr. Rainville is affiliated with several hospitals and medical centers in the New Jersey area, including UMC Mountainside Hospital, St Joseph’s Wayne Hospital, Jersey City Medical Center, Clara Maas Medical Center, and Hunterdon Health System.

Dr. Rainville is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), which is a post-nominal title used to indicate that the surgeon’s education and training, professional qualifications, surgical competence, and ethical conduct have passed a rigorous evaluation, and have been found to be consistent with the high standards established and demanded by said College.

Originally from Dallas Texas, Dr. Rainville completed his undergraduate education at Baylor University. He later moved to New York City, where he completed his residency in General Surgery at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine at Montefiore Hospital. He then went on to complete his fellowship training in Bariatric/Robotic Surgery at the University of Texas in Houston.  

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Bariatric surgery includes a variety of procedures performed on people who have obesity. Weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach with a gastric band or through removal of a portion of the stomach or by resecting and re-routing the small intestine to a small stomach pouch. As a general and bariatric surgeon, Dr. Rainville assists patients with a wide variety of conditions for the purpose of helping them to achieve improved quality of life. His clinical interests include robotic gastric bypass, robotic hernia repair, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, transoral incisionless fundoplication, endoscopic gastric balloon, as well as robotic and endoscopic bariatric revisional surgery.
