Get to know Gastroenterologist, Dr. Ira E. Stein, who serves patients in Nashville, Tennessee.

A board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Stein practices at TriStar Medical Group in Nashville, Tennessee. In practice since 1995, he remains affiliated with the Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute, TriStar Centennial Medical Center, TriStar Horizon Medical Center, Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, and Riverview Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Stein performs a variety of procedures, including whipple procedure, proton therapy, gastric motility test, fecal occult blood test (FOBT), endoscopic ultrasound, colonoscopy, cancer surgery, and barium enema. He also offers bariatric surgery referrals, nutritional counseling, and telehealth. 

Dr. Stein treats a full spectrum of gastrointestinal conditions, including ulcers, ulcerative colitis, stomach cancer, ruptured bowel, reflux, pyrosis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, IBS, hiatal hernia, H. Pylori infection, gastroparesis, gastrointestinal cancer, GERD, gastroenteritis, gallstones, dysphagia, diverticulosis, Crohn’s disease, colorectal cancer, cirrhosis, chronic pancreatitis, celiac disease, bowel obstruction, biliary diseases, anal fissures, adenocarcinoma, and achalasia. 

Dr. Stein earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa, followed by his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1990. Subsequent to the completion of his internship and internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1993, Dr. Stein completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in 1995.

Licensed to practice in Tennessee, Dr. Stein is board-certified in internal medicine and the subspecialty of gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
