Get to know Internist Dr. Gloriane Afonso-Fede, who serves patients in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Dr. Afonso-Fede is a board-certified internist who is affiliated with Hawthorn Medical Associates in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Established in 1970, Hawthorn Medical Associates is the largest multi-specialty medical group practice in the greater New Bedford area. The primary care and specialty physicians, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners working there provide high quality, comprehensive medical care to more than 138,000 patients each year. These providers represent 20 medical specialties and are supported by state-of-the-art laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, and specialty services.

Dr. Afonso-Fede earned her medical degree from St. George’s University in True Blue, Grenada in 1997. Upon relocating to the United States, she went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Downtown Brooklyn, New York City. 

Dr. Afonso-Fede is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Afonso-Fede is a member of the American Medical Association. Dr. Afonso-Fede attributes her success to having always wanted to pursue a career in medicine. She recalls her mother being a big inspiration to her, as well as enjoying trips up to the hospital to visit friends and family. She found the environment and the doctors to be so interesting. 

Dr. Afonso-Fede loves patient education and enjoys building long-term relationships with her patients. Her passion for her role is evident to anyone in her presence. In addition to English, Dr. Afonso-Fede is fluent in Portuguese.
