Get to know Internist Dr. Sylvia M. McQueen, who serves patients in Nashville, Tennessee.

A trusted internist, Dr. McQueen has been serving as the State Medical Director of Centurion Health in Nashville, Tennessee since October of 2019.

Initially attracted to the healthcare field because of an interest in helping others, she feels that it is her primary responsibility to treat her patients with humility and without judgment. Her success, she notes, is directly related to her compassion and commitment to treating everyone with kindness and respect. 

With a broad educational background, Dr. McQueen graduated with her Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 1986. She then went on to earn her medical degree from Meharry Medical College School of Medicine in 1995, after which she completed her residency in internal medicine at Meharry Medical College.

Performing in the top 5% of her class, she earned her Master of Business Administration degree from the Jack Welch Management Institute in 2019.

Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. McQueen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Her professional affiliations include the Society of Correctional Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her field, Dr. McQueen was honored with the Regional Medical Director of the Year Award in 2007 by Prison Health Services, Inc. and the Clifford Jacobs Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Patient Care.
