Get to know General Surgeon, Dr. Vanita Ahuja, who serves the population of Maryland.

Dr. Ahuja earned her medical degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located in Bethesda, Maryland. She then attended Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she completed her internship. After completing her internship, Dr. Ahuja went on to complete her residency, which she completed at Johns Hopkins Hospital, located in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition, Dr. Ahuja is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences is a health science university of the U.S. federal government. The primary mission of the school is to prepare graduates for service to the U.S. at home and abroad in the medical corps as medical professionals, nurses, and physicians.

Dr. Ahuja currently practices with LifeBridge Health, located in Baltimore, Maryland.  LifeBridge Health is a nonprofit healthcare corporation that was formed in 1998 and currently operates several medical institutions in and around Baltimore, Maryland. Since 2008, Dr. Ahuja has held board certification in surgery with the American Board of Surgery.

General Surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. There are subspecialties to general surgery including vascular surgery, hand surgery, pediatric surgery and surgical critical care.
