With a broad educational background, Dr. Sloan graduated with his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1967. He completed his internship at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1968, followed by two consecutive residencies in general surgery and urology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1971 and 1975, respectively. Finally, he completed his fellowship at the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in urology by the American Board of Urology (ABU). The mission of the ABU is to act for the benefit of the public by establishing and maintaining standards of certification for urologists, and working with certified urologists to achieve lifelong learning to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, and ethical urologic care.

Among his other roles, Dr. Sloan maintains hospital privileges at Glendale Memorial Hospital, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, Temple Community Hospital, California Garden Grove Hospital and Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital Orange, LAC+USC Medical Center, and St. Mary Medical Center Long Beach.
