Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Menke received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Drew University. He then attended New Jersey’s School of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. From there, he went on to complete his internship and residency in anesthesiology at Monmouth Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident from 1983-1985.
After leaving Monmouth Medical Center, he became Chief of Anesthesia in USAF stationed at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. In 1989, he joined Portsmouth Hospital as Medical Director of the Ambulatory Center and later became Department Chief.
Licensed to practice medicine in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, Dr. Menke is board-certified in anesthesiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology (AOBA). The AOBA is an organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine who specialize in the administration of anesthetic agents and perioperative medicine.
In addition, he has certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery.
