Dr. O’Connell, an admired obstetrician-gynecologist, is the owner & operator of Peninsula Women’s Care in Newport News, Virginia. “My patients really are part of my family. I’m privileged to be a part of their life’s journey and I treasure the long-term relationships that we develop.”

Born and raised on the Peninsula, Dr. O’Connell graduated from Tabb High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. She then went on to earn her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School, after which she performed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Drexel University.
With a passion for her profession, she is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.
In order to serve those in great need of spiritual and medical care, Dr. O’Connell has a passion for traveling to the most remote parts of Uganda and Kenya. She is also the Board Vice-President of Carenet, the Board Vice-President of OneChurch, and a Board Member of He Intends Victory (a Christian Ministry that ministers to those affected by and infected with HIV/AIDS).
In direct affiliation with her industry, she is a member of the American Association of Pro Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
