Dr. Maria M. Crespo, a highly respected physician at Penn Medicine, is making waves in the field of pulmonary medicine with her exceptional patient care and groundbreaking contributions to lung transplantation. Serving as the Medical Director of the renowned Penn Lung Transplant Program and as a distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine at the esteemed Perelman School of Medicine, Dr. Crespo is committed to providing top-tier healthcare to her patients.

With a primary focus on treating patients aged 18 and above, Dr. Crespo operates out of the Harron Lung Center Perelman, a state-of-the-art facility affiliated with the prestigious Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Crespo’s journey to becoming a leading expert in pulmonary medicine began with her Medical Degree from the University of Santander School of Medicine. Her extensive training took her to esteemed institutions across Spain and the United States, including Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she completed her residency and fellowship training.

As a testament to her expertise and dedication, Dr. Crespo is board certified in pulmonary disease and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Transplantation, the American College of Chest Physicians (Fellow), the American Thoracic Society, the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Alumni Society, the International Society for Heart Lung Transplantation, and the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Alumni Society. 

In her role as the Medical Director of the Penn Lung Transplant Program, Dr. Crespo continues to push the boundaries of clinical and research lung transplantation, offering cutting-edge treatments seeking improvements that will give prospective lung transplant patients renewed hope and developing tools to improve a patient’s chance at success post-transplant, offering cutting-edge treatments and compassionate care to her patients.
