Dr. Andrea Liacouras is an Audiologist who has been in practice for over 15 years and has worked extensively in the diagnoses and treatments of hearing loss and vestibular (balance) challenges. She holds a National Certification from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Dr. Liacouras earned her Master of Science and Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degrees from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and then completed her Audiology residency at Georgetown University Hospital. Previous to those degrees, she completed a Master of Science degree in Education of the Deaf/Hard of hearing and is therefore also fluent in Sign Language.
Dr. Liacouras has worked in school, clinic, military, hospital and private practice settings, during her career, with a specialization in pediatrics. She has extensive experience with newborns through geriatrics while treating high risk patients that have suffered from vertigo, migraines, strokes, tumors, various diseases and other degenerative conditions. She has also developed a treatment plan for patients suffering from vertigo and migraines through use of amplification. She founded A 2nd Ear to provide excellent and affordable hearing and balance care and to meet the growing needs of patients and their families, using telehealth technology, from the comfort of their own environments. A 2nd Ear currently serves Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York.

A head trauma can result in a variety of problems related to the ear including hearing loss, vertigo, dizziness, and tinnitus. We recommend you have a full hearing evaluation by an Audiologist. Is partial deafness possible after an ear infection?
It is possible to develop a conductive hearing loss during an ear infection. This may occur even if the fluid behind the eardrum is no longer infected. The hearing loss sensation is similar to hearing as if "under water." We recommend you schedule an appointment with an Audiologist to have a full hearing examination. The results of the hearing evaluation should be forwarded to the ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physician who is treating you for the ear infection. Once your ENT has this information, they will be better able to develop a treatment plan to assist with recovery. READ MORE

Sinus infections can affect your hearing. It depends on the severity of infection, duration of symptoms, and the patient's medical history.
