Before going into private practice with Kalamazoo Gastroenterology Hepatology in 2004, Dr. Sharma was a senior gastroenterologist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He is the Vice Chief of Medicine for Ascension Borgess Hospital and served on the Borgess Medical Executive Committee and is a Resident Teacher for Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies.
Licensed to practice medicine in Michigan, he is affiliated with Ascension Borgess Hospital, Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Bronson Methodist Hospital, Bronson LakeView Hospital, and Three Rivers Hospital.
A 1984 graduate of Indira Gandhi Medical College in India, Dr. Sharma relocated to the United States to further his training. He performed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in 1994 and 1996, respectively.
A year later, in 1997, he attained board certification in gastroenterology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Sharma is a member of the International Society for Study of Diseases of the Esophagus & the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society.
