Can I get my teeth whitened with braces?
It is possible to whiten teeth while they have braces on them. The results tend to be less regular and even though the whitening agent will "soak" around the brackets somewhat it usually results in an uneven result. A more important thing to do is get you teeth in really good shape and avoid the white demineralization spots so common after wearing braces. By doing that you teeth will be ready to whiten to an awesome result. READ MORE
Should I go to the dentist if my gums are swollen?
Your gums are highly vascular (have a lot of blood supply) so bacteria and infections in your mouth have ample opportunity to enter your bloodstream and get to the rest of your body. Swollen, irritated, and red gums are all signs of infections. Seeing a professional to eliminate that as soon as possible is an excellent idea. It could be an indication of a much more serious problem below the gums. READ MORE
Do wisdom tooth abscesses take a long time to heal?
A wisdom tooth abscess isn't much (if at all) different from any other abscess. If your health is good, your immune system healthy and normal, you take antibiotic and treat the area with care the abscess should go away very quickly. It may take longer for the hole to heal, but keeping it clean with irrigation should speed the process. READ MORE
Is it possible to brush my teeth way too much?
As long as you are using a soft or extra soft toothbrush with good technique (brushing with the way the teeth grow). It would be difficult to brush your teeth too often. If you have questions about proper technique, your hygienist or dentist should be able to help you. Alternatively, you can search "Modified Bass brushing technique." READ MORE
What should I do if my dentures feel loose?
Due to changes in the shape of our mouths over time, most dentures need to be relined (the tissue side resurfaced to fit your mouth better) every 3 or so years. The more time past since the teeth were extracted, and the better the dentures fit, the slower the shape of the mouth changes. READ MORE
Anything I can do for my tooth gap?
The options are numerous and can be permanent or temporary. Othodontics (braces or clear aligners), caps/crown, veneers are a few of the permanent solutions. I think a "snap-on-smile" might be the most cosmetic temporary or transitional solution. Hope that helps. READ MORE
Does an impacted tooth require surgery?
Short answer: If you want or need it removed it will most likely require surgery. Longer answer: All extractions of all teeth, except those taken out with "floss and a door knob", are removed surgically as tissue is cut and bleeding occurs. That said there are differing degrees of complexity, difficulty, expertise, and experience that effect how complicated the surgery and how long the recovery period. READ MORE
I have had 3 teeth chip in the past year. Is this normal?
Short answer - No that is not normal. If you have heavy wear or an aggressive life style that could explain the new developments and damage. If you have heavy wear, your teeth may have reached the point where they have multiple areas of thin and/or unsupported enamel (the hard outer layer) which will now chip with even moderate force. A complete dental exam should help you diagnose the cause and come up with a plan to reduce or eliminate further damage and even possibly restore the damage done. Best of luck! READ MORE
