Get to know Family Physician Dr. Ronald L. Peters, who serves patients in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Dr. Peters is a trained family physician with over 30 years of experience in nutritional biochemistry and holistic health care. Working with patients at his private practice – MindBody Medicine Center – since 2004, he is highly effective in helping people learn from their health problems and restore their health, both physically and psychologically.

MindBody Medicine Center provides medical care which educates and empowers people to reverse disease using the fundamental healing principles of mindbody medicine. It represents the convergence of the best of traditional medical practice with the emerging science of integrative medicine, thereby providing a much needed alternative to the outdated medical model which focuses on treating disease with drugs and surgery.

Prior to his work at the MindBody Medicine Center, Dr. Peters was affiliated with various organizations. In the late 70s, he worked with California Primary Physicians, where he became Director of Preventive Medicine, and was the Director of the Emergency Department at Encino Hospital. Between 1980 to 1985, he was a staff physician in the Emergency Department of California Hospital, and developed and directed the InnerHealth Program, both in Los Angeles.

After relocating to Ashland, Oregon in 1990, he opened a medical practice with appropriate emphasis on nutritional, behavioral, and preventive medicine. He offered health promotion seminars under the title of The Physician Within. In 1999, he moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where he completed a book titled “Edgework” which was published in 2003, and became the Medical Director of the New Hope Medical Center.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Peters graduated from Stanford University in 1966 with Honors in Biology. He then entered the UCLA School of Medicine, receiving his medical degree in June of 1970. Following medical school, he began a rotating internship at the US Public Health Service Hospital in Boston, finishing in 1971.

In 1977, he returned to UCLA, this time to the School of Public Health, studying epidemiology and preventive medicine under a postdoctoral training grant from the National Cancer Institute. He received his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in 1978.

As a testament of his continued education, he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.

An accomplished writer and lecturer, Dr. Peters continues to offer a variety of seminars on stress management, mindbody medicine, health promotion, and cancer prevention.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services.
