Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Nelson A. Pichardo, who serves patients in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Dr. Pichardo is a board-certified psychiatrist who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Hakuna Matata Telepsychiatry Services in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He and his wife, Libanessa Pichardo, a registered nurse, are the owners of the clinic. Additionally, he is an attending psychiatrist at JourneyPure Emerald Coast.

Hakuna Matata Telepsychiatry Services is a family-owned telepsychiatry visual clinic that provides comprehensive psychiatric services anywhere in the state of Florida, including treatment for a wide variety of mental health conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, sleep disorders, substance abuse, chronic pain, and more. 

Professionally, Dr. Pichardo also serves as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Florida State University in Tallahassee. 

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in between New Jersey and Puerto Rico, he attended the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago in the Dominican Republic on a basketball and volleyball scholarship and with the help of his amazing grandmother who raised him. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree and his medical degree, he went to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine, to complete his residency in adult psychiatry, as well as child & adolescent psychiatry.

After completing his residency, he joined the United States Air Force and was the Medical Director of Eglin Air Force Base’s Mental Health Clinic. At Eglin, Dr. Pichardo was responsible for treating the active duty service men and women and the dependents on base as well. After he separated from the Air Force in 2016, he joined Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital, where he treats adults and children who suffer from a variety of psychiatric disorders.

The doctor is board-certified in psychiatry, with added qualification in child & adolescent psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists. 

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health, including substance use disorders. They are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems.

On a more personal note, Dr. Pichardo and his wife have been are happily married, and have two daughters together.
