He then attended University of Texas Southwestern Medical School completing his doctorate of medicine in 1994. He then did his internship in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center from 1994-1995. In 1995 he returned to Southwestern Medical School for specialty training in ophthalmology, and completed his surgical training in 1998.

Dr. Patel specializes in cataract surgery, and has a special interest in diabetic eye diseases, glaucoma, and general eye care. He prides himself in providing information to his patients and having them involved in the decision making process in taking care of their eyes.

Dr. Patel is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Patel has also instructed and trained residents in performing cataract surgery at Southwestern Medical School and Parkland Hospital, where he was an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.

Subsequently, Dr. Patel did his internship in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center from 1994-1995. Returning to Southwestern Medical School in 1995, he underwent specialized training in ophthalmology, successfully concluding his surgical training in 1998.

Board certified in ophthalmology, Dr. Patel is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States.

His professional affiliations underscore his dedication to the field, as Dr. Patel is not only a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology but also a member of the Dallas Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Texas Ophthalmology Association, the Texas Medical Association, and the Collin-Fannin County Medical Society.
