In addition to his work in general dermatology, Dr. Stierstorfer has pioneered the discovery that hidden food allergies are often a cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Based upon his clinical research, he has developed IBS-80, a series skin patch tests comprising 80 common foods and food additives to identify these allergies. In his studies, when foods identified by the patch testing were removed from the patient’s diet, over half experienced significant improvement or resolution of their  IBS symptoms. The testing is now available by prescription for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to test their IBS patients.

Dr. Stierstorfer graduated with his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1985. He furthered his training with an internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
