An established gastroenterologist, Dr. Maheshwari specializes in liver disease at The Center for Liver and Hepatobiliary Diseases, part of The Melissa L. A native of India, Dr. Maheshwari earned his medical degree from the University of Bombay. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the St. Louis University Hospital, before completing two consecutive fellowships in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in gastroenterology, transplant hepatology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Active in advanced research projects in liver diseases, he has authored many peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on issues in liver disease. He is an active speaker and has appeared at conferences and hospital grand rounds around the country.
